I just got back from a holiday in chilly Canada hoping for a smattering of snow here in Japan. I was disappointed.

It’s certainly winter.
And so, the summer holidays come quietly to a close. It’s been an odd one this year, with typhoons ravaging the coast and ruining travel plans, and only brief spurts of intense sunshine in between.
When you’re talking about a bridge between the worlds of cinema and video games your mind is likely to wander towards Tron.
Spring has finally sprung, after a tentatively snowy closing of winter that shut down much of the country.
It’s Christmas. In Japan, that means synthesised carols streaming from grocery store speakers; girls in Santa outfits standing outside shops selling white Christmas cake; and couples. Couples everywhere.
It is bitterly cold this time of year in Japan. Early though it may be, winter is truly here, with its icy breezes, thick clothing and the sudden surge of Christmas goods in shops.
